Annual Child Find Notice
ALL CHILDREN can and have a right to learn. Each one has unique strengths and weaknesses. Some learn faster and constantly crave more knowledge. Some have different needs due to problems with seeing, hearing, talking, moving or simply dealing with people. This notice is to inform you and your community about the right to, and availability of, educational services for all children with disabilities.
Such disabilities include autism, deafness, deaf-blindness, early childhood developmental delay, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, specific learning disability, cognitive impairment, orthopedic impairment, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, visual impairment, or any combination of these, which has or might be expected to interfere with his or her academic progress.
Please be aware that:
- Federal regulations ensure that any person, ages 3 – 21 years of age, living in the boundaries of Aleutian Region School District may be entitled to special education services, if he or she qualifies for such services.
- Anyone may refer a child for evaluation to determine his or her eligibility for services (parent permission is required for assessments to occur).
- Not all students referred for assessment qualify for special education services.
- It is your right and responsibility as a parent and/or concerned citizen to refer to Aleutian Region School District those children whom you feel may be eligible for special education services.
- Special education services for an eligible student are individually tailored to meet his or her unique needs such as specially designed instruction, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling services, speech and language therapy, etc.
- All students with disabilities are entitled to a free and appropriate education.
- Any information regarding a child is treated in a confidential manner as required by state and federal law.
ALEUTIAN REGION SCHOOL DISTRICT CHILD FIND wants to locate any of these children, ages 3-21, who may benefit from special help. If you know of a child who may need to be identified in any of the areas listed above, please contact the district office (see information below).
